Description : This mini-course offered by AIU delves into the contrasting worlds of democracy and authoritarianism. Throughout history and across the globe, political systems have varied widely, shaping societies and individuals in profound ways. In this course, we embark on an enlightening journey to understand the defining features, benefits, and hurdles associated with both democratic and authoritarian governance. The course begins by elucidating the fundamental principles of democracy, including the rule of law, political participation, and civil liberties. Students will explore the mechanisms of democratic governance, such as elections, separation of powers, and checks and balances, which foster accountability and transparency in decision-making. Through case studies and real-world examples, learners will grasp the inherent advantages of democracy, such as fostering innovation, social cohesion, and human rights protection.
