  2. The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop basic perceptual, observational, and compositional skills necessary to communicate a range of subject matter, symbols, ideas, and concepts using knowledge of drawing and painting media, processes, and techniques.

    The content should include, but not be limited to, the following:

    -use of tools and materials
    -art vocabulary

    -elements of art and principles of design
    -critical thinking and analysis
    -historical and cultural perspectives
    -connections between visual arts and other subject areas

    -personal and social benefits
    -collaborative skills
    -career opportunities

  2. After successfully completing this course, the student will:
    1.         Demonstrate use of tools and materials for drawing and painting in a safe and appropriate manner.
    2.         Demonstrate awareness of appropriate art vocabulary.
    3.         Demonstrate basic knowledge of technology, processes, and        techniques to produce drawings and paintings in varied media.
    4.         Produce sketches, drawings, paintings, and studies to communicate ideas through application of the elements of art and principles of design.
             5.         Demonstrate use of basic perceptual, observational,                                        
                and compositional skills to produce representational and abstract art.
              6.         Compare and contrast the elements of art and principles of design    used in drawings and paintings. 

     

               7.         Demonstrate awareness of the role of art and artists through history, culture, and society.

    9.         Demonstrate awareness of personal and social benefits associated withthe design, production, and exhibition of drawings and paintings.
